Not all music software works well with this unit using a PC/Windows. I can’t “slave” my recording software with my Triton while using this unit. I can slave my software using other Midi Ports such as the one on the Delta 1010 interface. SoundDiver doesn’t work at all as well as other apllications. It crashes my system everytime I try to use most of my “midi” software. I tested my system with a Midisport Interface and I experienced absolutely no problems whatsoever.The 8×8 patchbay works well as a stand-alone unit. But navigating thru the front panel screens is a headache.
Quality:
The product absolutely did NOT live up to my expectations. Being a “MOTU” product, I expected and lot more than what I got.
Value:
This product may work a lot better in the Mac platform but I would not recommend this unit with a Windows PC at all. I could have gotten a better unit for my system for a much cheaper price!
Desirability:
I’m looking to trade this unit in for something else SOON!
Support:
I tried to contact MOTU via e-mail back in NOVEMBER and I have yet to hear from them and I’VE tried calling them but with NO success.

I will dump this unit as soon as possible.

It has self contained USB cable and MIDI cables, saving you the cost of buying them as you would have to with a 2X2 etc.
Quality:
A little fragile looking (plastic) but nice and light to throw in the laptop case and carry around with you. If a cable comes loose inside it might be a pain to fix and therefore kinda disposable.
Value:
Well it’s made in China and so I am sure they have priced it as low as they can to still make a profit. I’m sure that the packaging and shipping costs add up to more than the manufacturing costs…and then there is the 100 % dealer mark up.
Desirability:
Well, I have one, it does it’s job and thats that.
Sound:
Not Applicable. It obviously is not designed to produce sounds, so a 10 because it transfers the information as it should.
Support:
Never needed support for this unit, but have dealt with M Audio and they are very helpful.
Overall:
I got it as a portable device to throw into the ‘kit’ bag when on the road…. it will always come in useful. Of course we all need more ‘ins’ and ‘outs’ when in the studio… thats what the 8X8 is for… same brand, works great.

it is a midi router. it doesn’t rout anything. if you hook it up to a basic sequence it will fail. you can’t play a simple melody on a keyboard without overloading it. it is a worthless piece of trash and i too, like the other reviewer of the other model of m-audio midisport 4×4 feel ripped off.
