Roland SP404 Sampling WorkstationPicking up where Roland’s popular SP-303 sampler left off, the new SP-404 is built on a foundation of more: more features, more voices, more pads, and more memory. The SP-404′s sleek, silver look is new to the SP family, and it surpasses its predecessor by offering battery-power compatibility, a CompactFlash slot, and a built-in microphone for quick, stress-free sampling sessions. Just turn it on, aim, and record – no cables and mics to connect. Then get down to the business of making beats and patterns, and add extra color with the great effects built into this little powerhouse. Even with all the bonus features, the SP-404 is still amazingly affordable.

Quality:
yeah, this is a pretty sturdy build, least i hope… is there something ya’ll know that i don’t? ha

Value:
YES

Desirability:
VERY COMPELLING AND APPEALING like that guy said like a gameboy just way better or whatever.

Sound:
the sound is quality, ultimately whatever the musician makes of it. yes it is quite expressive. It helps me get the sounds i hear in my head onto tracks. this can work with any musical style, just takes the ear to place it right. specifically with it i use an electribe emx-1, microkorg, and tr-707.

Ease of Use:
the interface is as intuitive as it can be for its size and number of buttons and knows. very tiny learning curve(an hour or two)

Overall:
sequencing is the only problem i have. the real time pattern recording is ok but step editing and recording would make this an ace. this is such a rad piece though, it allows me to be composing beats and sounds on the fly where ever i go, using the noise around me is a pretty incredible, so portable. i really love it, i could hug it.

Feature:
Well, the basic features are fantastic; THE SIZE, the tight and friendly sequencer, the separate outs, pads, great mac/pc compabillity etc. But the effect unit is really not impressive, it’sa not just very basic, I miss some essential stuff there, like why isn’t there a delay on board? Same thing with the filters, they sound very weak and digital. I’m also a bit disappointed with the envelopes and dynamic sample editing/manipulation in general. My EMU sampler from 1995 (approx 150

Feature:
Its everything MPC and some. I like the chop shop and phrase sampling. The different quantize options are amazing, with note shifting, etc. The ‘swing’ on this machine is superb.

Quality:
Pretty well built, compact and looks very professional. Its got a nice tilt screen, and i like the clicky wheel. The pads feel great for programming drums.

Value:
For the money, you get what you pay for. Its solid, tight and delivers.

Desirability:
looks very slick on my desk next to my laptop. It blends in well with my other gear. Its beautifully designed ground up. The MPC logo on the back screen is a nice touch. The mpc 2500 looks like the mpc 3000le, but slimmer and slicker.

Sound:
What you put in, is what you get out. With the right drum samples, this thing sounds fat on the bottom and sweet on the top. Its a fairly punchy sound, with a nice thump on kicks. The sound is pretty focused, not muddy or lo fi like the old samplers.

Ease of Use:
Once you started playing with it, you get the hang of the main feature pretty quickly. Its a small learning curve.

Support:
I dont like Akai support, but who needs them.

Overall:
Great machine, excellent feel for drums, perfect for any studio.

Feature:
Find out for yourself before I make you bouncing off the wall so you can get it.

Quality:
You do not want me to get into talking about the quality so I will just say I give it a 10/10 – no actully I give it extra credit it’s 15/10

Value:
The price is expensive but I think it’s worth, people think it’s smaller so it must have less features – not true. It’s smaller with same features, people should be happy it’s this much because if they knew what the MPC500 had they would know it’s worth more than $2000.

Desirability:
Damn! This thang is sexy. This thang got ass. It got curves. The looks attracted me when I first saw it. Love at first sight.

Sound:
The sound is I should say number one. The sound responds even better than I imagined. It is a real easy device because it’s just the same as other MPC’s but smaller and portable. It has an incredible sequencer. It’s design is simple and sexy.

Ease of Use:
Real easy, it is the most easiest MPC I have ever worked with. It’s just like a PSP because the real PSP system is PS2 and the MPC500 is just like MPC2500/MPC4000 but same quality and same sound just smaller, the PS2 might have better graphics than PSP but that isn’t how the MPC500 is, this MPC is the same thing as it’s brothers.

Support:
Real nice company real friendly.

Overall:
This my baby I ain’t never gon’ break up with it.

Feature:
this machine is very versitile

Quality:
I was disappointed here: just bee real careful with the knobs, and you will be ok. I live the design though, the metallic red finish rocks.

Value:
Not a bad deal, I will say that. It is in real handy at gigs.

Desirability:
It is attractive, and I would buy it again.

Sound:
some effects are a little grainy in parts

Support:
I was having trouble with one of my knobs, and I had a hard time getting a response from Korg…..then I was without it for more than a month because I had to send it back to the factory.

Overall:
get one, just be careful with it.
