Feature:
Highest score for this. This is one of the most feature packed portable recorders I`ve seen so far, and in this price range you could not ask for more. For me it works very well as an USB audio interface for my laptop, with low latency ASIO driver. Great!
Quality:
Feels a bit cheap and plasticky, but again.. I wouldn`t expect more for the price
Value:
I think the value for this unit is great. Maybe not the best recorder in the price range, but with all its built in features you get a lot for your money!
Desirability:
It could definately have been cooler looking. It should have been 1-1,5 inch shorter and black, then it had been dead cool
Sound:
Good enough sound with the built in mic`s, have not tried it with external mic. Line input work well.
Ease of Use:
It`s easy enough. Could have had bigger buttons, or have had all the mic/line gain switches done in the software instead.
Support:
Haven`t had any use for support other than software updates which is easy available on the website
Overall:
Very pleased with this. It has worked great for me. The only draw back as far as I`m concerned is its size(should have been shorter) and to some extent the cheap feel.
Tascam’s DP-004 Digital Pocketstudio is based on 30 years of easy-to-use cassette Portastudios, updated with four tracks of CD-quality digital recording. Like those groundbreaking Portastudios, a row of knobs set levels and pan instead of a list of menus.

Feature:
Make no mistake, this is a bare bones 4 track recorder. For the price, your getting better than cd quality recording with super ease of use at a very reasonable price. I’m sure that most people are going to use their own effects when it comes to recording and mix down. It would have been nice to have the AC adapter but for what I paid, I’m not complaining at all.
Quality:
I don’t think I’ve ever had an issue with TASCAM products.
Value:
I don’t think your gonna find a 4 track like this that’s this easy to use and sounds great!!! *SUGGESTION* Buy one before the price goes up…and stock is low.
Desirability:
It’s a basic recorder…the way I like it, SIMPLE!!!
Sound:
Wow!!! What a leap in technology…this recorder is top notch when it comes to a clean signal. I’ve used this with a ZOOM G2 and ALTO S8 mixer and the recording quality is flawless. The internal mics are amazing considering their size. The frequency / tone quality captured seems to rival some of my more expensive microphones!!!
Ease of Use:
What can I say, I hate anything complex. This recorder is VERY easy to use and the manual is very clear on the recorder’ use.
Support:
I haven’t had to use any support from TASCAM lately but in the past, I’ve had great success.

As i said, every single feature is useful, all the FX, all the amp simulators, everything. There are alot of features, and all useful.
Quality:
This product will be able to stand up to the test of time, when you pick it up, you dont feel like you are going to break it, because your not, even thought it is a delicate peice of equipment, unless you drop it down a set of stairs, it should be fine
Value:
This product it extreamly affordable for what you get, i love it and you will too.
Desirability:
when i saw this product i knew it was the product for me, it is easy to carry around with you, not too heavy, and is durable.
Sound:
The sound on this machine is amazing, it is very respncive and all the components are very useful, even the internal mic, which is great for recording things like mandolins and ukulele thant cannot plug into the machine driectly, this is an over all perfect machine, there is no downside!
Ease of Use:
This peice of equipment is very easy to use, the first day i got it i was able to record, bounce, convert to a WAV file, and then export it onto my computer.
Support:
I havent had to find the support for this product yet, but one problem is that you cannot export the files on this machine to a MAC, only to windows ME, XP, and 2000. This is not a problem for most, but im sure it effects some people.
Overall:
i Love this product, so buy it!

Feature:
Boss should package this with a power adapter and a larger memory card, but I’m sure overall price was the contributing factor – each of these owuld have added $20 to the selling price. The effects, built-in microphones and rhythm machine all are great features.
Quality:
I bought mine used, but everything seems high quality. I wouldn’t want to “road” this without a better case -the included padded carrycase does not offer much protection.
Value:
For this price, there’s no other choices on the market.
Desirability:
Once I saw the pictures and read about it, I had to have it!
Sound:
The sound is excellent. Through headphones or monitor speakers, it is overall very well balanced.
Ease of Use:
You need to read the manual first, then refer to it often until you are familiar wiht the controls and what can be read in the small display screen, but after that it is very easy!
Support:
Have not used
Overall:
I hope to get many years of use out of this. Future upgrade would be to a model with built-in CD burner, or model that allows more tracks to be mixed down at one time without bouncing.

I purchased the Boss BR-900CD digital audio workstation after considering the Zoom H4, Boss Micro BR, and Boss BR-600.
