Somewhat pricey for such a simple piece of software. But nothing else does what it does, so you have no choice.

It is an amazing idea, executed in a simple manner. I expect the next version to have many more features.

This product does not make sound. It uses your MOTU audio interface as a CV output, so you can use it to control analog gear. WARNING: You will have to build your own cables.

Ease of Use:
Here is a big problem, it requires you to use TRS to TS cables that “float the ring”. If reading that sentence your first thought isn’t, oh I know how to build those, this product isn’t for you. If you use the wrong cables, you will physically break your audio interface. But it does not come with cables, and as far as I know, no one makes or sells them. So you have to make them yourself.

Overall:
As far as I can tell, it does not work with my main audio interface, an Apogee Ensemble. I was hoping to aggregate the Ensemble with a MOTU 828, but it turns out the Ensemble does not aggregate. That is Apogee’s fault, not MOTUs, but it still makes it unusable for me. So I might have to return it, because I want to give up the Ensemble.

Not all music software works well with this unit using a PC/Windows. I can’t “slave” my recording software with my Triton while using this unit. I can slave my software using other Midi Ports such as the one on the Delta 1010 interface. SoundDiver doesn’t work at all as well as other apllications. It crashes my system everytime I try to use most of my “midi” software. I tested my system with a Midisport Interface and I experienced absolutely no problems whatsoever.The 8×8 patchbay works well as a stand-alone unit. But navigating thru the front panel screens is a headache.

Quality:
The product absolutely did NOT live up to my expectations. Being a “MOTU” product, I expected and lot more than what I got.

Value:
This product may work a lot better in the Mac platform but I would not recommend this unit with a Windows PC at all. I could have gotten a better unit for my system for a much cheaper price!

Desirability:
I’m looking to trade this unit in for something else SOON!

Support:
I tried to contact MOTU via e-mail back in NOVEMBER and I have yet to hear from them and I’VE tried calling them but with NO success.

Overall:
I will dump this unit as soon as possible.

Very close to perfect….SMALL form factor, all TRS (balanced) inputs…VERY well made. There is NO interface for anywhere near this price with this many analog inputs…EASY to use on both PC and Mac platform. MOTU supplies GREAT drivers, and updates them as needed, but generally VERY solid out of the box. MOTU support via PHONE is TERRIBLE, although they do SOMETIMES respond via email…that’s about all negative that I can say.I really don’t understand the poor reviews here…

Lots of productivity enhancements. Window sets are cool… with one click, I can make it look just like PT. Clients never know the diff, visiting engineer types feel at home, and I can work much faster. Really versatile import/export features. Can open & save OMF files without expensive “translator” software. Every type of editing feature imaginable. Bundled softsynths are cool and AU support allows access to tons of 3rd party plugs. Midi editing features very powerful.

Quality:
Has not crashed once on my system.

Value:
Competitive upgrade a good deal.

Desirability:
A real workhorse program. I rarely use a 2 track editor, file utility, mp3 converter, or even ProTools anymore. Not flashy or gimmicky, just really powerful.

Sound:
Sound quality as good as anything out there. Nice bundle of plug-ins included. Bounce to disk happens faster than real time… kicks ProTools’ butt.

Ease of Use:
Fast and easy recording/editing. Fully customizable commands. Interface easy to look at for long periods.
