This unit sounds great! I tracked a drummer and then laid down my guitar and vocal tracks using the amps in the unit. I was floored by the outcome of the project. The Zoom blows away all other daw workstations!

Feature:
The internal effects processor was a key element in my studio,as the effects in my Peavey PV10 mixer are virtually useless.
Quality:
I love the tactile aspect of this recorder,as everything’s solid & smooth to the touch. It has a nice sleek & nuetral quality in appearance.
Value:
I chose this product specifically for all of it’s various features at a bargain of a price-worth every red cent.
Desirability:
More for practicality than anything else,as I am always on a budget.
Sound:
I use this recorder in conjunction with my Korg Triton Extreme & Alesis Ion & this recorder relays very clean recordings to cd’s very well. I have also had great results with my AKG Perception 100 microphone,as the vocal effects are impressive.
Ease of Use:
Since I am new to multi-trackers,I would have to give the Zoom recorder a top rating for ease of use,as I’ve only had the recorder a few months & I had most of all the functions figured out in a couple of weeks & at this point,I am very fluent with this product.
Support:
No support needed thus far.
Overall:
Will utilize it as long as it holds up.

Trim controls are ridiculous !!
Desirability:
Great concept — poor execution
Sound:
Big problem with the trim controls. Hard to control mic levels.
Support:
They know about the problem but aren’t doing anything about it!!
Overall:
Disappointed !! If they would fix the trim controls, this could be a nice unit.

Feature:
Overall ok however most of the guitar distortions leave a lot to be desired. I’ve used one or two but not often. My only criticism would be the small monitoring screen. More tracks would also be nice, but “bounce” works well so you can get around that given the price.
Quality:
I imported this unit from Neveda USA to Sydney Australia, so I guess it may have taken some knocks along the way via FedX? If so, it hasn’t made any difference. Very happy.
Value:
I paid a little over half the price via the States than what a DP-02 costs in Australia.
Desirability:
Looks way better than the earlier models.
Sound:
This is my first home studio digital recorder so I don’t have much to compare to. However, I’ve been playing guitar for over 30 years and have “some” idea of what is a reasonable sound! To my ears it sounds great. My muso friends agree.
Ease of Use:
Very easy once you’ve flipped through the manual just to be sure.
Support:
Haven’t need it.
Overall:
I’ve produced my first home recorded CD on the DP-02 and I’m extremly happy with the result.

There are more unique things now, but for when it was made, this is very good.

Feature:
quite okay!
Quality:
Not a professional quality product!
Value:
Save your money and buy a real professional recorder..not this one!!
Desirability:
I dont want this anymore! buy a one from me!
Sound:
I had earlier Fostex D-90 and this Alesis HD24 has no so good Ad/da-converters as fostex. The sound of this machince is too thin and not so dynamic..lower-sounds are also problem..it gives a cracked sound easily. I compare this like a low-cost soundcard! Is this made in china..it really sound’s like a low cost recorder. People are stupid cause they give a way their professional fostex recorders for free and i was one of those stupid person’s. I try to sell this unit away!
Ease of Use:
This machine is easy to use but its not important for me!
Support:
it is working!
Overall:
Iam dissapointed and difficoult to sell away!

Feature:
Has a lot of internal features to be an all in 1 station but requires thousands of dollars invested in a T/dif mixer system or analog i/o cards that do dont come with the machine.
Quality:
seems cheaply made for the price paid.
Value:
maybe in the thousand dollar price range this would be okay.
Desirability:
Its pretty and thats about it.
Sound:
RADAR kills the sound quality on this unit. It isnt bad just not up to par for the money. If you can get one of those. Plan on selling this one.
Ease of Use:
Very hard to grasp and the windows vista system will freeze up from time to time. Shoulda stuck with B.e.
Support:
tascam support is the worst of all the industry.
Overall:
okay if your rich

Feature:
Actually four mono tracks and two stereo tracks. You don’t have eight independent mono tracks as the name might imply, but with a little planning you can do most of what you need for nice quality demos. Four simultaneous inputs is great in this price range. The editing functions are great and fairly powerful. The autopunch function is wonderful for someone like me who makes a few mistakes here and there – very easy to fix them. I can occasionally hear a slight click on the individual track when I punch in/out, but it hasn’t been noticeable in the final mix. 40GB of hard drive space is more than enough.
Quality:
Built fairly sturdy. I have read some comments on the MR-8 where people claim the buttons wear out. I assume this has the same buttons but am not sure. I’ve only had mine for a couple of weeks so too early to tell.
Value:
I think this is a great unit for the money.
Desirability:
I bought it and am glad I did.
Sound:
Very good sound quality for the money. Reverbs and amp simulations are OK, except for the distortion, which is not so good. I would have rather had EQ built in than all the effects, since I will mostly use my own effects.
Support:
Haven’t had to use it.
