Feature:
The preamp is great. I wish that it had an EQ section, and the compression has got to go.
Quality:
It’s pretty solid. It’s focusrite, so it should last me a while.
Value:
It’s a good preamp, but they just made the mistake of trying to wow the consumer with a number of features instead of making sure that the features were solid. If you’re looking for a good inexpensive preamp, this one is good, but don’t count on it for compression.
Desirability:
It looks very nice.
Sound:
The preamp is clean, but I wish that they focused a bit more on the pre and added an EQ section rather than the compression, which is some of the worst I’ve heard. There is no control for attack and release times, ratio, and the threshold is a simple 1-10 instead of based on db. The make up gain on the compression is noisy. The bass cut makes everything sound very thin, and is impossible to guage. The preamp itsself is great though.
Ease of Use:
The compression and low cut are nearly impossible to use, but other than that is very straightforward.
Support:
I haven’t had to use the support yet.
Overall:
It’s a good unit. The preamp is solid, but the features kind of suck. I would rather have to of these preamps in the strip with EQ than the compression and bass cut. It would also be nice if the XLR and TRS inputs were on the back instead of on the front.

Feature:
there is a digital card option, which may be of use to users with lower quality A/D converters. the latency free monitoring is also quite useful though again, only if latency is already an issue in your system.
Quality:
usual focusrite build quality
Value:
v good value and some of the focusrite packages almost make it rude not to buy one.
Sound:
though i try not to add any processing at tracking stage, the VMPro gives you the flexibility to do just that with a fantastically transparent pre, or to mangle the sound as much as you like. the highlight for me is the de-esser which is so easy to use and sounds very effective and again transparent. the only downside is the expander which does seem to artefact the sound somewhat and so i would be loathed to use at tracking, but might be worth looking at for mixdown when it could be good for clearing up headphone spill or rogue click tracks. fantastic product.
Overall:
your expectations of equipment always change as you get more experienced and you get better at what you do, so i’ve no doubt that eventually i will demand more of this class of device, but for the moment i’m delighted.

Feature:
Indeed 2 more inputs would have made everyone happy
Quality:
The quality is good enough to work on the road (it does by me 4 months) The front is plastic, that worrys me sometimes…
Value:
I got this thing at a very low price so im not complaining..
Desirability:
Its a nice looking thing
Sound:
The sound is in fact 9.5 because of the somwhat thin output.. The inputs are what you should expect of a focusrite, very good…
Ease of Use:
Here it comes …its not a friendly device, and im not a friendly guy, so we developed a love hate relationship (it works) The real comment from me is that when you buy this card, you got some bugs you wil have go thru, after some real messin around this soundcard is good value for money and has the quality you need… So this is not a soundcard for dummy’s,. If youre not realy into drivers, asio settings and things where you might need a manual or need to go on the net or know how to think logicaly or whatever….Then Dont Buy it. buy a soundblaster…
Support:
what i heard of was not very good but i did not have real problems that where bad enough to call support
Overall:
Im satisfied and im going to buy the rack version as an xtra card in my new on the road rack…
