The Tascam DM-4800 is the ultimate digital console for professional users who demand a flexible, 64-channel mix platform that configures to fit their needs. A “fat channel” strip in the center of the board provides instant access to 4-band parametric EQ, dynamics and aux controls available for the first 48 channels. Twenty-four studio-grade mic preamps provide enough inputs for a live event, and more can be added using expansion cards with external preamps. The standard compliment of analog and digital I/O is more than you’ll find on consoles costing three times as much, and a completely confi gurable 24-buss routing system allows you to re-patch the board at the flick of a switch.

Feature:
For the price, the features are right up there with the Yamaha DM2K (at roughly 4x the list price of the TASCAM). They actually did the routing a bit better than Yamaha… can send ANY input to ANY output via just about any signal path… Yamaha could take a lesson!
Quality:
It’s very pretty!! However, it loses points for the CRAPPY COMPRESSORS!!!!
Value:
At $5000, this console is a bargain… even with the BIG PROBLEM WITH THE COMPRESSION ALGORITHM!!!! (i put this in caps so that maybe TASCAM will take heed and fix this problem). Aside from this one problem, this console is rock solid. I own three of them and two of the DM3200′s and have used them for two seasons to record “The Biggest Loser”, “Beauty and the Geek” and numerous other reality shows. No problems, crashes, etc… aside from the VERY BAD COMPRESSION!!!!!
Desirability:
Probably the best looking console in the “under $20,000″ catagory.
Sound:
The mic pres are OK… rather transparent, but headroom is a bit tight. Also, don’t even THINK about using the dynamics, the compression algorithm causes a severe distortion. TASCAM should really be ashamed of putting out a “pro” product with such a marked and easily fixable flaw!!
Ease of Use:
If you’ve used one digital console… actually, the menus on this console are very easy to navigate.
Support:
I have always had good experiences with phone support from TASCAM.

Feature:
It’s a digital mixer and audio interface. It would have been nice if it were firewire instead of usb, but it doesn’t show any latency or problems. Great effects. But my fav feature is the Room Control.
Quality:
Great.
Value:
It’s a great deal for the price.
Sound:
With the Room Control I’ve catched many things more that without proper eq don’t get noticed. The audio control room realy comes very handy. Great sounding mixer and interface.
Ease of Use:
Yeah it’s easy as any other mixer.
Support:
Roland gives a good support usualy.

Feature:
The features is where this mixer wins. I has a lot of features. I really like it’s EQ features — it gives you a TON more control than an analog mixer… and I get to see what’s going on right there on the display on the mixer. I especially like the Acoustic Room Control feature. This works very well. It was like night and day. I didn’t know what I was missing — the sound is so much more clear now, it’s hard to believe how muddy it used to be.
Quality:
Very good features, but a little bit noisy. I think that can be worked around though, and actually the noise is not any worse than my last mixer which was an analog mixer.
Sound:
The reason I give the sound an 8 is because with the gain turned all the way up, this mixer adds a noticeable amount of noise.
Ease of Use:
Very easy to use. Excellent.
Overall:
Very good value. It’s almost worth it just for the Acoustic Room Control, but also the EQ. I haven’t tried the microphone preamps yet so i can’t tell you what those are like.
More channels. More inputs. The new TASCAM DM-3200 has more of everything that made the DM-24 a pedigreed studio workhorse.

Feature:
Tons of features. You can do almost anything with this board. The only thing I miss is being able to route bus to bus.
Quality:
Built very well. I had a client ask me if the board cost more than the price of my house. And no, my house is not a cardboard box.
Value:
For the money, this board is the best value. It looks and feels way better than the O1V’s, sounds amazing and just plain rocks. If you want to impress clients and your price range is between $2k-5k, go with this board.
Desirability:
If I was looking for a mixer again in this price range knowing what I know now, I would buy it again in a heart beat.
Sound:
Overall very good sounding Pre’s, Converters, DSP and etc.
Ease of Use:
A bit of a learning curve in comparison to the Yamaha O1V, but once you get where everything is, you can move quickly around the board.
Support:
Surprisingly pretty good for Tascam. I have been able to solve any problems by talking to somebody over the phone at Tascam. Still a few minor minor bugs when using it as a control surface for Sonar 6, but nothing that would really be annoying or even noticeable to most people. Lots of support in the third party tascamforums.com too.
Overall:
Amazing value! One of the best purchases I made for my studio.

Feature:
I really love having the Fat Channel on all of my auxes as well. I literally won’t have to bring eq’s for the monitors any more.
Quality:
This thing is built like a tank. The lights and metering is stunning in a dark club. We have used it on 3 gigs and I have always had people comment on how cool this thing looks.
Value:
When I think about how much money (and back pain) I’m going to save by not hauling around extra compressors and EQ’s, I’m blown away. Not to mention this thing records awesome.
Desirability:
This board is over the top. It’s the best purchase I’ve made in a while.
Sound:
I was blown away by how extremly detailed sounding the StudioLive is. This absolutely makes my old Allen and Heath sound harsh. The preamps are quiet and have plenty of gain. The compressor, gate EQ is powerful.
Ease of Use:
I was wondering if a digital console would be a lot slower to get around on. I was pleasantly surprised that it is actually FASTER in many ways.
Support:
No problems yet so I can’t say much about the support.
Overall:
I’m blown away by how much you get with this board. It’s a great value.
