I think the first reviewer forgot that the DPS II includes Digital Outputs. Just because you don’t use a major feature of the preamp doesn’t mean it has no value. How can you compare two Presonus TubePre’s without Digital Outputs for $100 each to it? Two PreSonus Digitube Single Channel Tube Microphone Preamps with Digital Outs would cost twice as much as the DPS II $250 each).

in studio use the amp is badly let down by the fan noise. although the fan is quiet – during more ambient passages of music the fan can be distracting. this due to the fan always being on. also the blue LED is blinding and also very annoying. recommend disconnection or reduce the brightness with a resistor.

after several years of use, the 1/4 inputs will dissconnect ocasionally and the wire has to be “tapped” and the signal goes through again. but its lasted a long time, and still lasts.

Ive Used The Dbx 286, a couple different presonus ones, and several mixers, This Pre gives you the best cleanest sound for the price. If it was used In a professional studio…I doubt anyone would Notice It “sounds funny”. really a clean and safe bet. there Is a TAD of noise when fully cranked, but really Hardly noticeable unless you tune in. a any simple Gate plugin will fix that. If ur looking for that real sound you hear on CD’s, but dont have a busting wallet try this.

This unit does have a lot of features. From 48v mic amplification to compression to parametric eq it does a lot. Unfortunately what it does is add quite a bit of noise to the signal as well.

I’m not real happy with the overall quality of this unit because of the noise issues I’ve mentioned.

I’ll give it a five, it does give you a lot sound sculpting capabilities, noisily at least.

If you want sex appeal get an Avalon or a Neve 1073. I’m pretty sure those might do the trick…

The sound is great, very warm and i dont have a huge setup..i am getting a pro daw but even on my stock soundcard from a 2003 computer the thing makes a great recording and i dont have very expensive mics either…i can only imagine what it would make that sound like. I simply do vocal recordings and have this thing as a usb interface with a mic going into it and then it goes into my computer, recording with cool edit pro 2.0 For having decent equipment and then using this thing…it makes everything sound warm and smooth especially after mixing it correctly post-recording. If you want to get this u will not be sorry.
